Government & regulatory

  • Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB Malaysia)

    Statutory body under the Ministry of Works that regulates and registers construction contractors in Malaysia, including those doing flooring and renovation work. Consumers can use it to check whether a contractor is legitimately registered before hiring them.

  • Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN)

    Government ministry responsible for consumer protection policy and enforcement in Malaysia. Handles complaints about unfair trade practices or unresolved disputes with contractors, and acts as secretariat to the National Consumer Advisory Council.

  • Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (FOMCA)

    National umbrella body, established in 1973, for 13 consumer associations in Malaysia. A voluntary, non-political, non-profit organisation that advocates for consumer rights and can offer guidance on disputes with service providers such as flooring contractors.

  • Tribunal for Consumer Claims Malaysia (Tribunal Tuntutan Pengguna Malaysia, TTPM)

    Independent statutory tribunal, set up under the Consumer Protection Act 1999, where consumers can file low-cost claims (up to RM50,000, within three years of the issue) against a flooring contractor for poor workmanship, non-delivery of service, or unrefunded deposits, without needing a lawyer.
