What is SPC flooring?

SPC flooring is a rigid vinyl product with a core layer of limestone powder and polyvinyl chloride stabilisers, designed to resist moisture and withstand tropical conditions.

Stone plastic composite (SPC) flooring consists of a rigid core made from limestone powder bound with PVC stabilisers, topped with a printed wear layer and protective coating. Unlike standard vinyl sheet flooring or vinyl plank (LVP), which contain softer plastic bases, SPC's stone and polymer core provides structural rigidity and dimensional stability. This core prevents warping and movement when exposed to moisture and temperature fluctuations.

In the Klang Valley and across Malaysia, SPC has gained traction because it resists water absorption at its core level. The limestone-PVC composition prevents swelling and shrinkage, making it suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, and wet areas where traditional wood flooring or even standard vinyl might swell or deteriorate. The material also resists mould growth in humid tropical climates, a significant advantage in Malaysian homes and commercial spaces.

SPC planks lock together using click-together systems and install directly over concrete or existing floors without requiring expensive underlay. The rigid structure allows thinner profiles than vinyl while maintaining underfoot stability. Because the colour and pattern are printed onto the surface and sealed with a protective layer, SPC can convincingly mimic wood, stone, or tile finishes at a lower maintenance requirement. Contractors in Klang Valley often recommend SPC for renovation projects where moisture control and ease of installation matter more than traditional flooring methods.
